Funeral services for Mrs. Edith Collins will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004 at the Resthaven Mortuary, north of Trenton. Burial will be in the Schrock Cemetery, south of Reger.
A family visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the mortuary.
Mrs. Collins, an 84-year-old resident of 1910 Madison St. in Trenton, died late Sunday evening, Jan. 25, 2004 at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.
Mrs. Collins was born on March 29, 1919 at Reger, the daughter of Walter and Ada Rogers Smith. She was raised at Reger and graduated from Milan High School. She attended Kirksville State Teachers College. She also taught school at Reger.
She was married on July 5, 1941 to Vincent Harry Collins, who preceded her in death on March 21, 1977. They lived all their married lives at Reger.
Mrs. Collins was employed at the Sullivan County ASCS office for a few years and also worked at the Sullivan County Recorder’s office for many years. After her husband’s death, she moved to Trenton, where she resided since 1978. Before her retirement, she was employed for a number of years at the Green Hills Community Action Agency. She moved to Columbia in November 2003 due to ill health and to be near her son.
Survivors include a son, Larry Collins and his wife, Mary, of Columbia; two daughters, Mary Margaret, now Mrs. Richard Riley of San Marcos, TX and Ann, now Mrs. Paul Zabczuck of The Woodlands, TX; a brother, Ellsworth Smith of Trenton; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a special friend. Sam Renfro of Trenton.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ervin Smith; a sister, Evelyn Pittaway; and a great-grandson, Seth Adam Riley.
Memorial contributions can be made to the donor’s choice and left at the mortuary.
