Grundy County Sheriff Greg Coon has been appointed by Gov. Bob Holden to serve on a task force to study ways to improve the state?s sex offender registration process.
The 9,000 offenders on the list have been convicted of committing or attempting to commit a sexual offense, whether in Missouri or before moving to the state. The task force will try to enhance public safety by increasing the availability of an accurate sex offender registry and promoting the prompt enforcement of registration violations, according to Holden.
In addition to Coon, who was the only sheriff named to the task force, members include Highway Patrol and Corrections Department officials, as well as a prosecutor.
