Virgil Ralph Hamby, a 93-year-old resident of Trenton, died at 11:25 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004 at the Sunnyview Nursing Home in Trenton, where he had resided for the past seven years.

Virgil Ralph Hamby, a 93-year-old resident of Trenton, died at 11:25 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004 at the Sunnyview Nursing Home in Trenton, where he had resided for the past seven years.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004 at Resthaven Mortuary in Trenton. Pastor Barry Boulware will officiate. Burial will be in the Willis Chapel Cemetery.

A scheduled visitation will be held one hour prior to service time.

Mr. Hamby was born April 19, 1910 at Ava, the son of Herbert B. and Monta Boone Hamby. He was married in August 1928 to Marjorie Gibler, who preceded him in death on May 10, 1943. He was then married on June 11, 1966 to Mona Margaret Overton , who preceded him in death on May 7, 1996.

Mr. Hamby farmed all of his adult life on his farm north of Brimson. He retired and moved to Trenton in 1988. He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church.

Mr. Hamby is survived by a daughter, Doris Jean Stratton of Liberty; a step-son, Robert Overton of Trenton; two brothers, Max Hamby of Brimson and Kenneth Hamby of Redondo Beach, CA; a grandson, Stacey Stratton; a granddaughter, Pamela Robertson; four step-grandsons, Don, David, Jon and Steve Overton; a step-granddaughter, Elizabeth Rice; and nine step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and his wives, Mr. Hamby was preceded in death by a son, Max Hamby, and a sister, Sylvia Davidson.

The family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church or the Willis Chapel Cemetery.
