Christopher Elden Spease, a 17-year-old resident of Princeton, died on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003 in Mercer County.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003 at the Princeton R-5 School gymnasium. Rev. Cheryl Sanders will officiate, under the direction of the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Service at Princeton. Burial will be in the Goshen Cemetery, west of Princeton.

An open visitation will begin at noon on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003 at the funeral chapel in Princeton. There is no scheduled family visitation.

Chris was born on June 22, 1986 in North Kansas City, the son of Gary Elden and Melody Kay Emmett Spease. He moved with his family from Liberty to Princeton in August 1990. He was a junior at Princeton R-5 High School, where he was a member of the basketball team, the academic bowl, the A-Plus program and a member of last year?s football team. He was a student coach at Spickard School, a member of Boy Scout Troop 105 at Princeton, a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say and had qualified for and was to receive the Eagle Scout Award next month. He was also a member of the Potowatomie Tribe of Shawnee, OK. He worked part-time on weekends for Premium Standard Farms of Princeton.

Chris is survived by his mother, Melody Hemenway and her husband, Jay, of Bethany; his father, Gary Spease, and his wife, Marnita, of Princeton; two brothers, Garrett Spease of Princeton and Brendan Hemenway of Bethany; two sisters, Sara Judd of Columbia and Madison Hemenway of Bethany; a maternal grandmother, Annette Boudreaux of Parkville; a maternal great-grandmother, Mildred Hunt of Lenexa, KS; paternal grandparents, Carson and Marjorie Spease of Independence; his girlfriend, Sarah Waltner of Spickard; three step-brothers, Jacob Hickman and Mace Hickman and his wife, Stephanie, of Princeton and Zachary Hickman of Kansas City; a step-sister, Allison Hemenway of Kansas City; maternal step-grandparents, Chick and Betty Hemenway of Mercer; paternal step-grandparents, R.E. and Clara Neill of Princeton; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Ronald K. Cosby.
