Oscar E. Grimes, a 72-year-old resident of East Moline, IL, died on Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003 at his home after a battle with cancer. He was a native of Grundy County.

Oscar E. Grimes, a 72-year-old resident of East Moline, IL, died on Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003 at his home after a battle with cancer. He was a native of Grundy County.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003 at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd. Burial will be in the Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline. Military honors are planned.
A visitation will be from 10 a.m, until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Grimes was born Feb. 14, 1931 at Laredo, the son of John O and Nettie V. Moore Grimes. He attended Laredo School and finished at Trenton. He worked on the J.C. Penny farm and spent two years at International Harvester Works before entering the military, joining the Marine Corps on Dec. 2, 1951. He attended school to be a cook at Fort Lewis, WA, then returned to Camp Pendleton to finish out his military service.
He married on Sept. 5, 1952 to Betty Ann Lemon, who survives of the home. He worked nine and one-half years with Williams White, then worked at John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline, where worked as a drill operator. He retired on March 1, 1994 after 30 years of service.
He was a member of the East Moline American Legion Post 227. He loved to camp, fish and tinker with small engines.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children and their spouses, David Eugene and Andrea Grimes of Davenport, John Grimes and Tracy Gish of Davenport, Rebecca and Ron Bruce of Moline and Lisa Marie and David Harden of Cambridge; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth Grimes and friend, Lillian Hamor of Warsaw; and two sisters, Mary Herrin and her husband, Bill, of Trenton, and Darlene Arnold and her husband, Chuck, of Gladstone.
Mr. Grimes is preceded in death by his parents and 3 sisters.
