The Jamesport City Council met Tuesday night, approving the revision of a water deposit and disconnect ordinance.

According to information provided by City Clerk Carol Cass, the council tabled the closing of streets and alleys, as well as festival street closings as the interested parties were not present. They agreed to have Mrs. Cass proceed with the ordinance revisions, with the following proposed changes: water deposit for landowners, $100 to be retained as long as a water customer; water deposit for renters, $200 to be retained as long as a water customer; deposits to be refunded when no longer a water customer; disconnection due to non-payment of bill will have a reconnection fee of $50, with no attempt by a city employee to rouse the customer at the time of disconnection and the customers having, at that point, no recourse but to pay the reconnect fee at city hall; late fees will be a flat $20 in lieu of the 10 percent now assessed if not paid by the 25th of the billing month.

In other business, the council passed a city sales tax ordinance providing for a sales tax in the amount of one-half of 1 percent for the purpose of providing funding for the city park.

The annual Christmas lighting contest was discussed, with the council agreeing that, due to much confusion in the voting process originally planned, the lighting will be judged by outside sources.

The next regular meeting is tentatively scheduled for 5:15 p.m., Jan. 6.
