The Laredo City Council met in regular session Thursday night, reviewing preliminary budget figures and setting the filing dates for the April 6 election.
City Clerk Joyce Stimpson said the council looked at the 2003 ending budget, noting that insurance was the only area which needed revision. Although final figures are not in, it appears that revenue for the 2003 budget year will be around $123,985, with anticipated expenditures of $121,181, leaving a balance of approximately $2,804 to begin the 2004 year. Next year?s budget has preliminary figures of $127,180 in revenues and $124,902 in expenses, leaving a balance of $2,278 to begin the 2005 budget year. The council will meet in special session at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 30 to finalize and adopt the budget.
In other business, the council set the filing dates for the April 6 election as Dec. 16 through Jan. 20. The terms of South Ward Alderman Josh Hill, North Ward Alderman George Griffin and Mayor John Molloy will expire. All are two-year terms. Those wishing to file for office may do so at city hall, with the office closed Dec. 25-26 and Jan. 1.
The next regular council meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Jan. 8.
