Dr. Wendell Lee Gentry, an 82-year-old resident of Columbia, died on Monday, Dec. 1, 2003 at the Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital in Columbia.

Dr. Wendell Lee Gentry, an 82-year-old resident of Columbia, died on Monday, Dec. 1, 2003 at the Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital in Columbia.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003 at the Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia. A private burial is planned at the Memorial Park Cemetery.

Dr. Gentry was born Jan, 7, 1921 in Trenton, the son of Aubrey and Rosalee Foster Gentry. He was a physician and surgeon, who retired from his practice in Southern California. He was a former chief of staff at the San Bernadino, CA, Community Hospital. He was a member of the Rialto Methodist Church in Rialto, CA.

Dr. Gentry served in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving two bronze stars. He was married to Barbara Ann Hammons of Thermal, CA, who survives of the home.

Other survivors include three daughters, Deborah Roberts of San Bernadino, Karen Breyette of Alma, AR and Cynthia Swingle of Columbia; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Aubrey Gentry.
