Each year over 36,000 people in the U.S. die due to the flu, with most of those over age 65. Flu season lasts from October through May, with most people vaccinated in October or November, however it is not too late to get the shot in December of later. The risk of having a serious reaction to the flu vaccine is extremely small, but people who receive the shot may experience a mild reaction such as fever, aches or redness and soreness where the shot is given. Because the vaccine is made from an inactivated virus, persons cannot get the flu from the flu vaccine. For more information contact the health department at 359-4196.
