The Trenton High School Lady Bulldogs edged Chillicothe by one stroke in route to a Class 1 – District 4 golf title on Wednesday.
THS finished with a team score of 343, which was one stroke better than the Lady Hornets, who finished with a 344.
?The girls did a fantastic job of winning the district golf championship,? Head Coach Ann Constant said. ?Not only did the girls have an outstanding team score, but they beat a very strong Chillicothe team for the fifth time this season.?
Eight teams took part in the tournament, which was held at the Green Hill Golf Course in Chillicothe. All five THS golfers finished in the top 10 individually.
?To beat (Chillicothe) on their home course in the district tournament with the amount of pressure and high level of expectations shows how much composure, poise and ability this team possesses,? Constant said. ?I cannot say (enough) how proud I am of the entire team.?
Trenton’s Avery Jennings led all golfers with a 39-40-79 to take the meet’s medalist honors. Jennings edged Chauncey Meneely of Chillicothe for the top spot. Meneely finished with an 80 while Madison Marcolla of Chillicothe took third with a score of 82.
?For Avery to finish as district medalist is a fantastic senior accomplishment,? Constant said. ?All five girls received medals for finishing in the top 10.?
Brittany Swank also had a strong showing with a fourth-place finish. She carded a 41-44-85. Ashley Bugbee of South Harrison rounded out the top five individuals with a score of 87.
Annie Hooker tied for sixth place with a score of 40-49-89. Sheena Perry took eighth with a score of 50-40-90. Cassie Murphy rounded out Trenton?s five golfers with a score of 45-46-91, finishing in a tie for ninth place.
?We should all be very proud of Avery, Brittany, Annie, Sheena and Cassie,? Constant said. ?They will represent Trenton at the highest level of competition and in an outstanding manner at the state tournament.?
Both Trenton and Chillicothe qualified their entire teams for the state tournament by finishing as the top two squads at district. Bugbee, Kelsey Vaughn of Maysville and Maria Burge, Whitney Boyd and Emily Gay of Gallatin also qualified individually for the state event, which will be played at Springfield on Oct. 20-21.
