Melba Louise Carder, an 80-year-old resident of Osage Beach, died on Friday, Oct. 3, 2003 at the Lake Regional Health Center in Osage Beach. She was a former resident of Gallatin.

Melba Louise Carder, an 80-year-old resident of Osage Beach, died on Friday, Oct. 3, 2003 at the Lake Regional Health Center in Osage Beach. She was a former resident of Gallatin.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. today (Monday, Oct. 6, 2003) at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. Burial was in the Lock Springs Cemetery.

Mrs. Carder was born on Dec. 7, 1922 in Livingston County to Ben and Mary Ann Smith Stephens. She graduated from Lock Springs High School in 1941. She had a day care in her home for many years. She was a member of the first Baptist Church and the String-Town Club at Gallatin.

Mrs. Carder was married in March 1942 to Calab Stephens, who preceded her in death in 1945. She was married on March 23, 1954 at Gallatin to Leahman Carder, who preceded her in death in 1993.

Mrs. Carder is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Perry of Osage Beach; three sisters, Bessie Rorebeck and Gertrude Reece of Trenton and Evalene Stephens of Gallatin; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Barbara Gordon in 1980; a brother, Russell Stephens; and a sister, Grace Mason.
