Laredo R-7
The Laredo R-7 Board of Education hired an aide and discussed a possible fund-raiser during its meeting Monday.
According to information provided by Principal Jean Dustman, the board voted to hire Vilma Holt to serve as a full-time aide for students in grades six through eight.
An update was given on the furnace, with Mrs. Dustman noting that Hamilton Heating and Cooling will be making some final adjustments on the new furnace system. It was also noted that four minor violations were corrected after the LP gas inspection.
Board members discussed a craft fair, which was suggested by Shelly Burress as a fund-raiser to help purchase supplies. The certification status of teachers was also discussed with 100 percent of teachers rated as ?highly qualified? for 2003. This means that by the standards set by ?No Child Left Behind,? all of the teachers are certified in the areas that they are teaching.
In other business, it was noted that MAP and Terra Nova scores have been sent to parents. It was also noted that the district met the adequate yearly progress (AYP) standards.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Oct. 13.
Princeton R-5
The Princeton Board of Education approved several personnel items and discussed a request for a school to join the Grand River Conference during its meeting.
According to information supplied by Superintendent Alan Hamilton, the board approved Lori Puls and Ila Rae Shaffer as football and basketball cheerleading coaches and Tana Berger as the dance team coach. The board accepted the resignation of William Woodward as director of maintenance, with Joe Moss promoted to that position and Bob Howsden hired as a full-time employee in the maintenance department. Carrie Orndorff Rogers was named assistant softball coach.
Board members approved a change in the sick pool to allow part-time employees to participate in the program at the rate of employment. For example, an employee working one-half time would receive one-half benefits.
In other business, the board reviewed the Parents as Teachers program, approved a request by seniors to have an open lunch period and approved participation in the Missouri Securities Investment Program and directed the administration to negotiate a tax anticipation line of credit.
The board also reviewed a request by Braymer to join the GRC conference and directed Hamilton to vote yes at the GRC winter meeting. The board had earlier reviewed and approved a request by Polo to join the conference.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Oct. 13.
Newtown-Harris
The Newtown-Harris School Board approved the 2003-2004 testing calendar and selected a health insurance carrier during its meeting.
According to information provided by Superintendent Andy Anderson, the board approved the testing calendar as well as the Comprehensive School Improve-ment Plan and the Missouri Ethics Policy and Resolution on Financial Disclosure. Darlene Ewing and Dan Martin gave teacher reports and Coach Martin was congratulated on the boys softball team earning second place in the HDC Tournament held over the weekend. It was also announced that the FFA Sunday dinner will be held in the cafeteria on Sept. 21.
Board members approved Forrest T. Jones as the health insurance provider, with rates 7 percent higher than last year. The new rate is $307.51 for an individual.
