A new restaurant will be coming to Trenton early next year and will be located on property that formerly housed the Crown Restaurant.

The Washington Street Food and Drink Company, owned by Greg Geib of Trenton and his brother, Tony, of Chillicothe, will locate a restaurant in Trenton sometime in early February. The Geibs have purchased one acre of property from TNT Investments, owned by Tim and Patty Whitaker of Trenton, which recently purchased the former Crown Restaurant property from Bob Wilson of St. Louis.

The building that housed the former Crown Restaurant is being demolished by Whitaker, with the Geibs planning to build their new facility a little bit to the south and west of the current structure. According to Greg Geib, the new restaurant will be similar to one the brothers own at Chillicothe in both looks and menu, serving steaks and seafood as well as sandwich and other related items. A full bar menu will also be available.

The Geibs have been in the restaurant business since 1995 and Greg Geib was manager of the former Dairy Queen at Trenton, which was owned by his father, before opening his own restaurant at Chillicothe. Coming to Trenton, Tony Geib said, was an easy choice.

“We felt like this was our best opportunity to bring this type of restaurant into other communities,” Tony Geib said. “We have a lot of clientele from Trenton at our Chillicothe restaurant and felt like this is where we should be.”

“We’ve had good success at Chillicothe and think there is a real need for something like that here,” Greg Geib said.

The Geibs plan to begin construction of the new restaurant sometime around Oct. 1, with a target date of early- to mid-February for opening. The restaurant will seat around 150 persons, with parking available for around 55 vehicles. There will also be outside patio seating for use during warmer weather.

Whitaker said he has been working with the Geibs for sometime to have a restaurant located in that area, which is just west of the Super 8 Motel and is owned by Whitaker and his wife.

“We’ve wanted a restaurant to open here for a long time as it’s good business for the motel,” Whitaker said. “Plus, this will allow us to do some business development in this area, which hopefully can continue for other ventures.”

Whitaker said the remainder of the property which was not sold to the Geibs will be made available for commercial development. He said some interest has already been shown, but there are no definite plans at this time.
