Hazel Catherine Rowland, an 88-year-old resident of Princeton, died on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003 at the Hospice Kavanaugh House in Des Moines, IA.

Hazel Catherine Rowland, an 88-year-old resident of Princeton, died on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003 at the Hospice Kavanaugh House in Des Moines, IA.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today (Monday, Aug. 25, 2003) at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Princeton. Pastor Gary Ponder Williams officiated. Burial was in the Princeton Cemetery.

Mrs. Rowland was born on Oct. 26, 1914 in Stone County, IA, the daughter of John and Bertha Brown Ballard. She was raised in Story County and was a graduate of Ames High School.

She was married on Jan. 7, 1935 in Wayne County, IA to William Raymond Rowland, who preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1974. They lived on a farm in Story County until 1947, when they moved to their farm in Mercer County, southeast of Princeton. Mrs. Rowland moved from the farm to an apartment at Oakwood Terrace in Princeton in 1984. She was a member of the Princeton United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Rowland is survived by a daughter, Helen Brantley and her husband, Bill, of West Des Moines, IA; two sons, Bill Rowland and his wife, Delores, of Princeton and Robert Rowland and his wife, Bonnie, of Troy, OH; three sisters, Joyce Gooliak and her husband, George, of Indianapolis, IN, Waneta Lewis and her husband, Leland, of Weldon, IA, and Velma Warner and her husband, Dale, of Colorado Springs, CO; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and one brother.
