Mayme Stephenson, a 92-year-old resident of Newtown, died at 10:45 p.m., Friday, Aug. 1, 2003 at the Sullivan County Memorial Hospital in Milan, where she had been a patient since July 14.

Mayme Stephenson, a 92-year-old resident of Newtown, died at 10:45 p.m., Friday, Aug. 1, 2003 at the Sullivan County Memorial Hospital in Milan, where she had been a patient since July 14.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., today (Monday, Aug. 4, 2003) at the Newtown Christian Church, with Bro. Denny Daum officiating. Burial was in the Newtown Cemetery, with the Payne Funeral Home of Galt in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Stephenson was born Dec. 20, 1910 near Newtown, the daughter of Elmer and Nellie Holt Brown. She graduated from Newtown High School. She was married to Herman McHargue. After his death, she married Lester Stephenson, who also preceded her in death. With the exception of the time she resided in Green City with Mr. Stephenson, she lived her entire life in the Newtown community.

She was a member of the Newtown Christian Church.

Mrs. Stephenson is survived by a son, Jack McHargue and his wife, Barbara, of Newtown.

In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents.
