The Newtown-Harris Board of Education met Wednesday evening, approving the 2003-2004 budget and voting to increase meal prices slightly.
According to information provided by Superintendent Andy Anderson, the board approved a budget which shows anticipated revenues of $1,312,871 and expenditures of $1,275,314. The assessed valuation for 2003-2004 is $8,948,912, which is an increase of $315,485 from 2002.
Meal prices were increased by 10 cents, making breakfast prices for students in preschool through sixth grade 80 cents and students in grades seven through 12 paying 90 cents. Lunch prices will be $1.25 for preschool through sixth grade and $1.40 for students in grades seven through 12.
In other business, the board approved membership in the Missouri Association of Rural Education, approved the Special Education Assurance Statement and appointed Duane Schnelle as Migratory and Homeless Coordinator, with Linda Tucker appointed as the English as a Second Language Coordinator and Anderson as Drug Testing Coordinator and Title IX Coordinator. It was announced that the auditor will be at the school July 24-25 and teacher inservice days are set for Aug. 18-19, with classes to begin Aug. 20.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 11 at which time the tax rate hearing will be held.
