Fred “Freddie” Eugene Elder, a 67-year-old resident of 411 E. 24th St. in Trenton, died Monday evening, July 7, 2003, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2003 at the Slater Funeral Home in Trenton. Brother Ron Ward will officiate. Burial will be at the Coon Creek Cemetery, west of Edinburg.
A visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2003 at the funeral home. Edinburg Lodge No. 394, IOOF, will hold a memorial service at 8 p.m., also at the funeral home.
Mr. Elder was born Nov. 15, 1935 in Daviess County, the son of Fred and Golda Mae Gott Elder. He attended Stevens Schools in Harrison County. He was a life-long resident of Trenton and he worked as an over-the-road truck driver and was self-employed as a roofing contractor.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Union Baptist (Coon Creek) Church, west of Edinburg. He was also a member of Edinburg Lodge No. 394, IOOF.
He was married on Sept. 2, 1989 at Trenton to Janet L. Walch Lawrence.
He is survived by his wife, Janet, of the home; five children, Terry Sue, Travis Elder of Arizona, Lori Trailer of Mandeville, LA, Ronda Driskell of Indianapolis, IN and Gary Lawrence of Springfield; two sisters, Roberta Bell of Ozark and Emma Smith of Columbia; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents, a daughter, Penny; and a sister, Thelma Shepard.
Memorials can be made to the Fred Elder Memorial Fund and may be left at the funeral home.
