Donald Clay Etherton, a 71-year-old resident of Springfield, died at 1:23 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2003, at his home.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, under the direction of Thieme-Shadel-Hicks Funeral Service in Rivermonte at Springfield. Bro. Ed Pearson will officiate.

Mr. Etherton was born Dec. 7, 1931 in Harris, the son of Herschel Clay and Velma LaDean Batson Etherton. He married to Doris Flo Johnson on June 18, 1950 in Edinburg.

Mr. Etherton worked for 38 years for the United States Postal Service as a postal carrier and had carried mail in the Branson area for 22 years before moving to Springfield, where he worked for 18 years before retiring in 2002. He had received numerous notable performance awards and special achievements with his long work history at the Post Office.

Mr. Etherton was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers Local 203, a life member of the National Rifle Association and was an avid outdoorsman. He had volunteered for local groups, including MDA and the American Red Cross. He was baptized in 1973 and was affiliated with the Church of Christ.

In addition to his wife, Doris, he is survived by three daughters, Debra North and her husband, Paul, of Bolivar, Janet Gard and her husband, Robert, of Branson, and Gloria Andrews and her husband, Scott, of Jefferson City; eight grandchildren, including Charissa North, Aaron North and his wife, Vanessa, Vanessa Egler and her husband, Fred, Eric Gard and his wife, Maria, Destinee Gard and Alysen, Sara Kathryn and Ryan Andrews; great-grandchildren, including Ashley, Alyssa, Micayla, David, Tristan and Ian North, Cadee Gard/Price and Kelby Gard; a sister, Donna Layson of Trenton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
