Gene Birdsong, a 74-year-old resident of Tipton, died at 3:50 a.m. today (Thursday, June 12 2003) at St. John?s Regional Medical Center in Springfield.

Gene Birdsong, a 74-year-old resident of Tipton, died at 3:50 a.m. today (Thursday, June 12 2003) at St. John?s Regional Medical Center in Springfield.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2003 at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, north of Trenton.

Mr. Birdsong was born Oct. 20, 1928 at Newburg, the son of John and Flossie Forester Birdsong. In 1949, at the age of 16, he was a logger with a stave mill in Trenton. On May 4, 1953 he was united in marriage to Lucille McHargue in Mountain Home, AR. They spent most of their married life in Jefferson City, where he grew and sold produce.

Mr. Birdsong is survived by his wife; four sisters, Margie Woolsey, Alice Warren, and Betty Salts all of Newburg, and May Myers from the state of Pennsylvania; three brothers, Loyd Birdsong of Knoxville, IA, Bill Birdsong of Newburg and Roy Lee Birdsong of St. Louis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.
