The Laredo City Council met Wednesday evening, discussing the water tower and demolition grants and noting that the annual primacy fees will be included in the June billing.

According to City Clerk Joyce Stimpson, the council heard an update on the Community Development Block Grant for the water tower project, which will involve the construction of a new standpipe. Mrs. Stimpson indicated that the state would like the city to obtain a low-interest loan to help with the project, which will cost approximately $250,000. The demolition grant, which would involve the removal of 18 to 20 structures, has been submitted and the outcome will be known in August.

Mrs. Stimpson said the Consumer Confidence Report, which showed no problems with the water system, will be sent to all water customers and the June bills will include the state water and sewers charges, which are used to pay for testing water. The water fee is $2 for residential customers and $5 for business customers, with a 40-cent sewer charge for all customers.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., July 2.
