Daisy Lee VanVacter, an 86-year-old resident of Platte City, died on Friday April 18, 2003 at the home of a daughter in Platte City.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. today (Monday, April 21, 2003) at the Greenlee Middleton Funeral Chapel in Princeton. The Rev. Guy Olin Thomas officiated. Burial was in the Princeton Cemetery.

Mrs. VanVacter was born on Aug. 25, 1916 in Mill Grove, the daughter of Alvin Ray and Tina Mabel Cousins Barnett. She attended the Calvert rural school and graduated from Princeton High School. She was employed by the Social Security Administration in Kansas City for many years, retiring in the mid-1970?s. She was also a former postmistress at the Mill Grove Post Office. She was a member of the former Coon Methodist Church.

She was married on Jan. 22, 1945 in St. Charles to William Martin VanVacter, who preceded her in death on Dec. 26, 1992. She and her husband lived on a farm south of Princeton for many years. In October 1997, Mrs. VanVacter moved to her daughter?s home in Platte City.

Mrs. VanVacter is survived by her daughter, Martina Bacon and her husband, Wayne, of Platte City; one granddaughter, Debbie Ann Bacon of Platte City; and a sister Jennie Vertrees of Princeton.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charley Barnett.
