THS Girls First, Boys Second At Trenton Relays

The Trenton High School boys and girls track team shosted the Trenton Relays on Thursday at C.F. Russell Stadium. Twelve boys teams and 13 girls teams took part in the afternoon event. The THS girls finished in first place with 174 points while the boys took second place with 152 points.

The Trenton High School boys and girls track team shosted the Trenton Relays on Thursday at C.F. Russell Stadium. Twelve boys teams and 13 girls teams took part in the afternoon event. The THS girls finished in first place with 174 points while the boys took second place with 152 points.

Lady Bulldogs

The THS girls finished on top in seven events. Kaycee Lee Blattner anchored the team with a strong showing, earning four first-place finishes. Trenton dominated the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles as well as the relay events.

?I was pleased with the girls,? Head Coach Chris Parks said. ?I thought we did a nice job, even though the conditions were not the best.”

Blattner took first place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:43 and finished first in the 1600-meter run with a time of 6:07. She was first in the 3200-meter run with a time of 13:45.45. Blattner teamed up with Ashten Witten, Sheena Perry and Lindsey Lattimore to take first in the 4×800-meter relay with a time of 11:05.

?Kaycee Lee had a good day,? Parks said. ?It was also nice that Nickole (Marroquin) was able to place fifth in the 1600-meters and April (Ross) was able to place sixth in the 3200-meter run.?

Jessica Marroquin finished first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.8 and Sadie Jones took first place in the 300-meter low hurdles with a time of 53.45. Jones took third in the 100-meter hurdles and Stephanie Gutshall finished fourth in the 300-meter low hurdles. Witten placed fifth in the 300-meter low hurdles.

?Our hurdlers did very well,? Parks said. ?Sadie, Jessica and all the hurdlers have been working very hard and it is paying off.?

Marroquin and Lattimore teamed up with Christina Woodard and Amber Vandevender in the 4×200-meter relay, taking first with a time of 1:56.88. Woodard, Vandevender, Witten and Gutshall teamed up to place second in the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 4:45.11. Ivy Swank, Colbi Hanes, Alana Tolle and Courtney Cox finished second in the 4×100-meter relay with a time of 57.1.

Perry was second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:09.45 and placed fourth in the 800-meter run. Vandevender also took second in the triple jump with a leap of 32-5 1/2 and was third in the long jump with a leap of 14-5.

Taron Brewer was second in the discus with a throw of 90-11. Jessica Marroquin took third place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.81 and was fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.92.

Woodard was third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.29. Cox placed fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 30.0. Cox also took fourth place in the shot put with a throw of 27-7.

Woodard finished second in the high jump with a leap of 4-8 and Lattimore took third in the same event with a leap of 4-8.

Finishing in second place behind Trenton was Carrollton with 85 points while Princeton was third with 80 points. South Harrison was fourth with 77 points.

Bulldogs

The THS boys dominated the hurdle events, taking first and second both times. THS also took first place in the high jump.

Kyle Bortell earned a pair of first-place finishes in the 110-meter high hurdles and the 300-meter intermediate hurdles. He finished with a time of 16.24 in the 110-meters and 44.15 in the 300-meters.

Scott Sharp also had a strong showing in the hurdles, taking second in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 17.36 and second in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 44.6.

?Hurdles have been a strong event for us all season.? Head Coach Rich Johnson said. ?Kyle and Scott are both working hard and Kyle is closing in on the 110-meter high hurdle school record.?

Jordan Ferguson notched the Bulldogs? other first-place finish, winning the high jump with a leap of 5-10. Myles Berry took second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:15.46. Tyler Greenwood was third with a time of 2:21 and Drew Dudley was fourth with a time of 2:22.

Berry was third place in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:05.24. Greenwood placed fourth in the 1600-meters with a time of 5:17 and Dudley was sixth with a time of 5:27. Berry finished his day with a fourth place finish in the 400-meter dash. Greenwood finished sixth. Times were not available.

Berry, Greenwood, Dudley and Casey Kitchen teamed up to take first in the 4×800-meter relay with a time of 9:24.8.

?Overall, we ran pretty well,? Johnson said. ?Our younger kids are stepping up and running well for us.?

Wade Peters took second place in the long jump with a leap of 18-10 3/4. Peters took second place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.88. He took third in the triple jump with a leap of 41-4 and was third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.81.

Eric Hoffman placed third in the discus with a throw 128-6 and Kyle Sharp was fifth in the discus with a throw of 113-6. Kinnison McKay took fourth in the triple jump with a jump of 38-9. Zane Robinson was fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.0.

Robinson, Bortell, McKay and Scott Sharp were second in the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 3:49.7. Zach Plumb, Robinson, McKay and Hoffman teamed up to take second in the 4×100-meter relay with a time of 49.36.

Chris Farr was third in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:38.86 and Will Jackson took sixth with a time of 14:34.00.

South Harrison won the boys title with 169.5 points. Third place went to Carrollton with 91.5 points while Grundy R-5 finished fourth with 58 points.

The THS track teams will be at the Cameron Relays on Tuesday.
