The Pleasant View R-6 Board of Education hired staff and reorganized the board during a meeting Tuesday night at the school.
Superintendent Dr. Lynn Kowalski said that the board agreed to hire all personnel for the 2003-2004 school year. There were no increases in salary, Dr. Kowalski said.
Election results were certified by the board and the oath of office given to recently-elected members. Re-elected as officers for the new year were Don Meservey, president; Keith Knapp, vice president; Dave McGinness, secretary; and John Anderson, treasurer.
The board approved the 2003-2004 school calendar, with the first day of classes set for Aug. 20 and the last day set for May 18. It was decided to build a sand pit for the track program and to also repair a refrigerator at the school. Also approved were updates to MSBA policies.
The board received information concerning the effect of cuts projected in school funding by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Dr. Kowalski said the cuts for R-6 are expected to range from $16,000 to $30,000.
The summer school program schedule was reviewed. Summer school will be held from May 27 through June 17 and is open to any child, regardless of school district, at no cost.
The board reviewed enrollment figures for the next school year and approved the purchase of two hand-held cordless microphones.
The next meeting of the board is scheduled for Wednesday, May 14. The meeting is being moved one day ahead for graduation, which is scheduled for Tuesday, May 13.
