Six judging teams from the Trenton HIgh School FFA Chapter and agricultural education classes qualified for state competition, advancing after the District Career Development Events held earlier this week in Maryville.

Six judging teams from the Trenton HIgh School FFA Chapter and agricultural education classes qualified for state competition, advancing after the District Career Development Events held earlier this week in Maryville.

A total of 11 teams participated in the district event, with two teams winning the top spot in their respective area. Teams qualifying for the state judging were Agronomy, FFA Knowledge, Meats, Entomology, Farm Management and Agricultural Mechanics.

The Agronomy Team placed first with Trent Steinhoff as the top individual judge. Mitchell Briegel was the third-high individual judge while Derek Lowrey was the eighth-high individual. Adam McClure is also a member of the team.

The FFA Knowledge Team placed first and had three members finish among the top three judges. Sabrina Bennett was the second-high individual judge while Bethany Hull and Ashten Witten tied for third. Tosha Altes is also a member of the team.

Placing third was the Meats Team, with Stephanie Gutshall as the third-high individual judge. Other team members were Kari Epperson, Sadie Jones and Megan Schmidt.

The Entomology Team finished seventh. Team members are Kyle Chenoweth, Vanessa Hanes, Megean McCloud and Megan Wyant.

Also taking seventh was the Farm Management Team, with Hilary Holeman as the 10th-high individual judge. Other team members are Casey Beverlin, Eric Hoffman and Ashley Schmidt.

The Agricultural Mechanics Team placed eighth. Team members are Wes Knapp, Josh Mathews, Jesse Meek and Kaleb Shiflett.

Among teams competing, but not qualifying for the state judging event, were Nursery Landscaping, 10th; Dairy Foods, 12th; Dairy Cattle, 13th; Horses, 17th; and Floriculture, 24th.

Individuals on the teams include Jerry Barlow, Destiny Ferris, Susan Hanes and B.J. Howard, nursery landscaping; Sabrina Barron, Jake Baucom, Josh Thomas and Alana Tolle, dairy foods; Blake Baugher, Andy Gannon, Jon McAtee and Zach Wilson, dairy cattle; Justin Anderson, Whitney Hanes, Mariah Moore and Julie Vu, horses; and Cari Buzzard, Sheila Carter, Misty McClure and Mandy Sims, floriculture.

Also competing were speakers Sabrina Barron, creed speaking; and Hilary Holeman, advanced prepared public speaking. Other speakers were Courtney Cox and April Ross.

Brian Robinson and Dennis Gutshall are the FFA Advisors.
