Garland Helton, an 86-year-old resident of the Oak Ridge of Plattsburg in Plattsburg and former Brimson and Marceline resident, passed away at 9 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2003 at the care center.

Garland Helton, an 86-year-old resident of the Oak Ridge of Plattsburg in Plattsburg and former Brimson and Marceline resident, passed away at 9 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2003 at the care center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at the Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home in Trenton. A scheduled family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2003 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Edinburg l.O.O.F. cemetery located at Edinburg.
Mr. Helton was born on January 3, 1917 the son of Arthur Creed and Tacy Peterson Helton. He was married to Earnestine Rader on March 18, 1946 at Kansas City, KS. She preceded him in death on Aug. 16, 1980. He was later married to Marie Hanes in 1984. He farmed in the Brimson area most of his life before moving to Marceline in 1991.
Mr. Helton was a member of the First Baptist Church at Marceline.
Mr. Helton is survived by his wife, Marie Helton of Marceline; three sons, Ralph Helton and his wife, Debbie, of Plattsburg, Ross Helton and his wife, Lynn, of Des Moines, IA and Arnold Helton of St. Joseph; two daughters, Jane Helton and her husband, Manford Rodat, of Klein Mahner, Germany, and Janet Hassani and her husband, Henry, of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA; two brothers, Elza Lee Helton of Atlantic Beach, FL and Martin Helton of Bullhead City, AZ.; one sister, Geraldine Long of Trenton.; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
Besides his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Helton.
