A family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2003 at the Slater Funeral Home in Trenton.
Mr. Brown, a 74-year-old resident of 402 Kavanaugh in Trenton, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at St. Luke?s Northland Hospital-Smithville Campus at Smithville.
Mr. Brown was born Dec. 26, 1928 in St. Joseph, the son of George Leonard and Goldie Mae Oaks Brown. He graduated in 1948 from Trenton High School. He was married Dec. 25, 1948 to Laura Jane Eaves at Trenton. She survives of the home.
He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church for 22 years and had served there as deacon and was part of a mission trip to Mexico to paint and repair a missionary school. He also served as deacon and elder in other churches that he was a member of.
Mr. Brown was a member of and served as vice president of the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Chapter of Chillicothe and went on the first airlift to Israel to form chapters there for the organization. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineer of the Rock Island Railroad, holding various offices, including chaplain.
Mr. Brown worked with his father and brother building many homes in Trenton and the surrounding area. He and his wife were owners and operators of the Oaks Groves craft and frame shop in Trenton for 12 years,
Mr. Brown enjoyed traveling and camping with his family, building furniture and making crafts. He studied the scriptures faithfully and loved to witness about his faith to family, friends and others. His favorite scripture was Psalms 21. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Tonda Eckert and her husband, Ron, of Chula, Lynn Smith and her husband, Larry of Trenton and Sonna Harkins and her husband, Mike, of Springfield; seven grandchildren, Rick, Rubyn and Randy Eckert, Jeff Smith, Jennifer White and her husband, Jerry and Justin and Jake Harkins; six great-grandchildren, Hannah, Derek, Lindsay, Brandon, Haley and Adrianna Eckert; one sister, Dorothy Moore of Trenton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Elmer “Buster” Brown.
