Mrs. Ferris Peniston, a 97-year-old resident of Morningside Center in Chillicothe, died at 8:10 a.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2003 at Morningside Center, where she had resided since Aug. 17, 2000.

Mrs. Ferris Peniston, a 97-year-old resident of Morningside Center in Chillicothe, died at 8:10 a.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2003 at Morningside Center, where she had resided since Aug. 17, 2000.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 27, 2003 at Resthaven Mortuary, north of Trenton. A family visitation will be held held one hour prior to the services at Resthaven. Burial will be in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens, north of Trenton.
Mrs. Peniston was born on Feb. 2, 1906 in Grundy County, the daughter of Logan Madison and Ella Gee Crawford Kilburn. She attended rural schools in Livingston and Grundy counties and graduated from Chula High School in 1922. After graduation, she taught in rural schools in Livingston and Grundy counties for a few years. On Dec. 25, 1924, she was married to Bert Peniston at Chillicothe. After their marriage they lived and farmed in north Livingston County until his death on May 5, 1981. After his death, Mrs. Peniston moved to Chillicothe.
She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and had served on the board of the Tolle Cemetery for many years. She was also a member of the Four Square Club, the Livingston County Extension Club, the Hedrick Medical Center Auxiliary and was a charter member of the Trenton Sweet Adelines.
She is survived by one daughter, Bertie Lou, now Mrs. Charles Canning of Powder Springs, GA; a grandson, Charles Michael Canning, and his wife, Laurie, of Powder Springs; two great-granddaughters, Blaine Ansley and Kendyll Lane Canning, both of Powder Springs; three sisters-in-law, Develia Kilburn, Maxine Kilburn and Frances Peniston; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Andy and J.W. Kilburn, and a sister, Ruth Graham.
The family has suggested memorial contributions be left to the Tolle Cemetery Care Fund. These may be left at or mailed to the Resthaven Mortuary at P.O. Box 587, Trenton, MO 64683.
