The Laredo R-7 and Spickard R-2 boards of education held meetings Monday night, taking care of personnel items.

Laredo R-7

Laredo board members agreed to table bids for a new furnace until they have time to review them further and allow additional contractors to submit bids.

Principal Shawn Schultz said that in executive session, the board chose to renew the contracts of seven instructors, with two staff members not having their contracts renewed. Names of those who were and were not offered contracts will be announced at a later date.

The board is scheduled to meet again April 14 to discuss non-certified and special education staff.

Spickard R-2

Principal Ruth Ann Shipps said the Spickard R-2 board voted to rehire all certified staff with the exception of one teacher who has indicated she will submit her resignation at the end of the school year.

In other business, Ms. Shipps said the board approved April 17 as a make-up day, with an early out, and tabled the 2003-2004 school calendar. The technology plan was approved, with the technology proposal, which involves staffing, tabled. She said a load of gravel will be secured from the city to put on the back parking lot and the board agreed to have summer school this year, with no schedule set at this time. An attendance report was given, indicating an average attendance rate of 91 percent.

The next meeting will be held April 15.
