Jewell Glenwood Propps, an 83-year-old resident of Maryland Heights, died Thursday, March 20, 2003, in St. Louis.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today (Monday, March 24, 2003), at the Newtown Christian Church. Rev. Denny Daum officiated.

Melba Fordyce served as organist for Doug Fairley, who sang, ?The Old Rugged Cross,? and ?How Great Thou Art.?

Pallbearers were Gene Kamphefner, Robert Parker, Brad Kline, Tony Parker, Kevin Parker and Patrick Novak.

Military rites were conducted by the Joseph L. Norton Post No. 919, VFW. Participating were Chet Baker, Louis Pushkarsky, Ron Persell, Jim Wattenbarger, Bob Greiner, Ed Geyer, Bart Shaw, Paul Ellis, Charles Davidson, Ernie Rousselot, Bob Haggy and Chet Ishmael.

Burial was in the Harris Cemetery in Harris, under the direction the Payne Funeral Home of Galt.

Mr. Propps was born Feb. 18, 1920, near Harris, the son of Reuben and Susie Wickman Propps. He was raised in the Harris community and was married to Verla Deane Milner on Sept. 10, 1942. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, Mr. Propps moved to Denver, CO, where he was employed by the Veteran?s Administration. He was transferred to St. Louis in 1956 and had remained in the St. Louis area since that time. He retired in 1972 and had been an active volunteer at senior centers in O?Fallon and Bridgeton for the past 20 years.

Mr. Propps is survived by his wife, Verla, of the home; three daughters, Joyce Kamphefner and her husband, Gene, of Maryland Heights and Janice Parker, and her husband, Robert, and Judy Barrett, all of St. John; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; six sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law and several other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Propps was preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence, Lester and Elmer Propps; one half-sister, Fern Williams; and an infant daughter and son.
