Lelah Louise Parkey, a 77-year-old resident of Independence and former resident of Bosworth, passed away in Independence on Monday, Feb. 24, 2003

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2003. Burial was in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Chillicothe.

Mrs. Parkey was born on July 19, 1925 in Cameron, the daughter of Ben and Ada Ellen Belk Curtis. On April 6, 1945 she married Bufford H. Parkey in Kansas City. He preceded her in death on Jan. 21, 1998. She was a 1940 graduate of Cameron High School. She was a farmer and a licensed beautician. She was a member of the Liberty United Methodist Church in Chillicothe, where she was a Sunday school teacher.

Mrs. Parkey is survived by one son, Bob W. Parkey and his wife, Jane, of Independence; two brothers, Kenneth Curtis and Ben Curtis, both of Cameron; one granddaughter, Jennifer Parkey of Independence; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Parkey was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Ada Dena Curtis and Verral Swicegood.
