Ralph Richard Zimmerman, an 84-year-old resident of Lineville, IA, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at the Westview Acres Care Center in Leon, IA.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2003 at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Lineville with Rev. Max Carmichael officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Inurnment of the cremains will be held in Van Wert, IA at a later date.
Open visitation and viewing is in progress at the funeral home, where the family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today (Friday, March 7, 2003).
Mr. Zimmerman was born on April 6, 1918 in Gruver, IA, the son of William Allen and Eva Miller Zimmerman. He was united in marriage to Mildred Maxine Pierce on June 9, 1939. She survives of the home in Lineville. He lived most of his life in the Des Moines, IA area, where he worked as a superintendent for the Lovejoy Construction Company. After retirement in 1977, he and his wife moved to Twin Lakes, southwest of Mercer. They have been residents of Lineville, IA for the past 10 years. He has been a member of the Carpenter’s Local #106 of Des Moines since 1948 and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Zimmerman is survived by three daughters, Janice Kearney and her husband, Carol, of Des Moines, Judy Pottinger of Des Moines and Sharon Bracewell and her husband, David, of Leon, IA; one brother, Harold Zimmerman of Clearwater, FL; six sisters, Lillian Hoover of Dallas Center, IA, Grace Westerbeck of Aurora, CO, June Hall and her husband, Gary, of Denver, CO, Dorothy Rogers and Carol Bohner, both of Perry, IA and Rose Travis of Dallas, TX; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Mr. Zimmerman was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bill Zimmerman, Jr. and Lawrence Zimmerman; and three sisters, Margaret Alvernaz, Jean Hawbaker and Hazel Merical.
