An effort is under way to assemble ?ditty bags? for local members of the the 1221st Transportation Battalion, which has been mobilized for active duty in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Noble Eagle.

An effort is under way to assemble ?ditty bags? for local members of the the 1221st Transportation Battalion, which has been mobilized for active duty in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Noble Eagle.

Items that are suggested are foot powder, toothpaste, toothbrushes, bars of soap, sun screen, shampoo, deodorant, shaving cream, decks of playing cards, combs, paper, pens and stationary. Monetary donations, which will be used to purchase pre-paid phone cards to issue to the troops, will also be accepted and can be left with any member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans posts of Trenton.

Items should be brought, prior to March 18, to the Whitaker Eads Funeral Home in Trenton between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Anyone wishing to help assemble the bags and assist with delivery is asked to call 359-3932.

The local unit will depart March 18 for its mobilization station at Fort Leonard Wood, where members will learn their ultimate destination.
