Approximately 30 persons attending a meeting in Trenton on Friday night to review a conceptual plan of future development being suggested for Crowder State Park.
The plan is the result of a public meeting held last summer in which residents were able to voice their opinions as what they would like to see available in the park area. Superintendent Paul Anders said that suggestions made by the public were then incorporated into a drawing, that was presented at Friday night?s meeting.
The conceptual plan addresses four issues brought up by the public, the most popular being the possibility of either expanding the park?s current campground area or purchasing additional land for a new campground while replacing the old campground with primitive cabins. Anders noted that the majority of persons in attendance, realizing the costs involved in any improvements to the park, indicated their preference for expansion of existing campground facilities. While adding cabins to the park has received support in the past, it was noted that expansion of the current area was more cost efficient.
Other areas discussed during the meeting, according to Anders, included equestrian trail head relocation and canoe access development.
A copy of the conceptual development plan appears on the state parks wesbite at www.mostateparks.com/crowder/plan.htm, along with a survey addressing issues similar to those discussed at Friday night?s meeting. The survey allows residents a chance to express their opinions about the park as well as answer specific questions, with information from the survey as well as from the meeting to be used to update the development plan. Persons can fill out the survey online until March 14.
Anders said the updated plan would then be taken to the park director and executive staff for a vote, with another public meeting to then be held. After that meeting, a final plan will be given to park officials for their approval or disapproval.
In addition to discussion about the conceptual plan, members of the Green Hills Trails Association presented a PowerPoint program on trails in north Missouri, including Crowder State Park.
