The 1221st Transportation Battalion of the Army National Guard, which has a unit in Trenton, has been mobilized for active duty in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Noble Eagle and will report to active duty on March 15.

The 1221st Transportation Battalion of the Army National Guard, which has a unit in Trenton, has been mobilized for active duty in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Noble Eagle and will report to active duty on March 15.

According to 1st Lt. Tamara Spicer of the National Guard office in Jefferson City, a total of 169 soldiers from units located at Trenton, Dexter, Centertown and Jefferson Barracks have been ordered to active duty for an initial period of up to 365 days. The unit is scheduled to depart on March 18 for its mobilization station at Ft. Leonard Wood, where according to Sgt. Christine Chaney of the Trenton unit, the battalion will learn its ultimate destination.

?Any command will appreciate the skills and professionalism of this unit,? said Brig. Gen. Dennis Shull, adjutant general for the Missouri National Guard. ?

I send this unit with pride and I thank the employers and families for their support during this mobilization.?

The Battalion was mobilized for Operation Desert Storm in 1991 and during the flood of 1993, the 1221st drove thousands of miles bringing aid to flood-stricken communities. Commanders for the battalion are Capt. Joseph Campbell and 1st Sgt. James Blaska.

In addition to the 1221st, other battalions from Missouri that have been activated include the 1138th Engineer Battalion, the 2175th Military Police Company, the 235th Engineer Detachment and the 203rd Engineer Battalion.
