Grundy County has been approved for use of Emergency Conservation Program cost-share, however, funds are currently unavailable for allocation to the county.

According to Grundy County Farm Service Agency Executive Director Tom Nee, the purpose of the ECP cost-share is to provide emergency measures to restore drought-damaged land on acreage physically located within the county. Thus, Practice EC6 is authorized.

Nee said that sign-up for the ECP cost-share will close on April 22. The purposes of ECP cost-share practice EC6 are to provide water conservation and enhancement measures to permit grazing of range, pasture or forage by livestock, supply emergency water for existing irrigation systems serving orchards and vineyards and provide emergency water for confined livestock operations.

Cost share to implement water conservation and enhancement measures are limited to:

? Those needed to permit livestock grazing of range, pasture or forage.

? Supply emergency water for existing irrigation systems serving orchards and vineyards.

? Only those farms or ranches that are adequate livestock watering systems or facilities or adequate irrigation systems for orchards and vineyards before the drought.

? At the time of the request, there must be adequate range or pasture residue for livestock in the area to be served by a proposed water facility.

? Minimum amount of cost-share expense that the landowner must incur is $1,000 for this disaster.

He said that although funds are currently unavailable, affected producers are encouraged to request cost-share if paying the total cost of their emergency measures will impose an economic hardship.
