The Grundy R-5 Board of Education offered administrator?s contracts and heard reports involving finances during a meeting Monday night at the school in Galt.

Superintendent Paul Huey said the board voted to offer contracts to himself as well as high school principal Phil Fox and elementary principal Lisa Fairley. The contracts would be for the 2003-2004 school year, with the salaries to be determined at a later time.

In executive session, the board accepted the resignation of Marsha Meeker as the Family and Consumer Sciences instructor, effective at the end of the school year. The resignation of Patti Chipps, a part-time tutor, was also accepted, effective immediately. The board also voted to uphold a student suspension action taken recently.

Huey reported on school finances, telling board members that the district may lose $21,000 in state aid between now and the end of the year, based on projections made by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The board voted to allow Huey to invest some funds in a certificate of deposit, getting the best rate of return as possible. The board also discussed possible areas in which spending cuts might have to be made, but took no action.

The board asked Huey to explore further the idea of forming a 501 (c)(3) corporation to allow the district to accept charitable contributions as well as apply for grants from foundations that make contributions to not-for-profit groups only. It was decided to advertise for the repair or replacement of the roof on the old vocational-agriculture building.

Huey reported that the district received a a good report on a recent state inspection of the high school kitchen. He also reviewed activities of the CSIP Committee, which is updating the district?s comprehensive plan. The board heard a request from CTA representative Dena Courtney, who asked that the current second grade class be split into two classes next year. No action was taken.

The next meeting of the board is tentatively scheduled for March 17.
