Three members of the Trenton High School wrestling team are headed to the Class 1 MSHSAA Wrestling Championships, scheduled for this weekend in Columbia.

Seniors Matthew Chambers and Zach Plumb and sophomore Jesse Meek will represent the Bulldogs in the event, which begins Thursday in the Hearnes Multipurpose Center. The three qualified for the state tournament after placing fourth or higher in Saturday?s Class 1 Sectional 2 Tournament at Chillicothe.

Five THS wrestlers took part in Saturday?s competition, which saw the Bulldogs placed 10th as a team. Centralia took first place while Richmond was second and Boonville took third.

Chambers finished second at 125 pounds, losing in the finals to Ray Walder of Richmond, 13-4. Chambers finished the day with a 2-1 record. He won by technical fall in his opening match and advanced to the finals by pinning Josh Phillips of Warsaw, 2:26.

Chambers is currently ranked eighth in the state and will open in Columbia against Ryan Simms of Pleasant Hill. Simms took third place in Sectional 3. Simms enters the tournament with a record of 29-16 and is unranked.

Plumb also took second place at the sectional tournament, falling to to Chance Baragary of Boonville in the 160-pound class, 6-4. He won by fall in his opening match and then beat Jacob Grisel of Hamilton by decision, 10-6.

Plumb will open the state tournament against Blake Hohensee of Monett. Hohensee took third in Sectional 3 and has a record of 32-4. He is ranked fourth in the state.

Meek finished fourth in the sectional tournament at 152 pounds. He lost a tough decision in the third-place match to Chance Earley of Chillicothe, 9-5. Meek won his first match by major decision over Lucas McQuade of Tipton, 20-9. Meek lost to Tyler Forsee of Centralia in his second match, then advanced to the third-place match by pinning Buchanan of Boonville, 2:14.

Meek opens his state tournament against Trace Vanderpool of Lawson. Vanderpool is currently ranked ninth in the state with a record of 27-9.

Two other Trenton wrestlers ended their season on Saturday. Freshmen Justin Hendricks and Justin Anderson both finished the day with records of 0-2.

119 – Justin Hendricks – was pinned by Mark Brunk of Centralia, 3:37; was pinned by Jeff Boguskie of Richmond, 5:34.

125 – Matthew Chambers – won by technical fall over Patrick Fisher of Knob Noster, 16-1; pinned Josh Phillips of Warsaw, 2:26; lost by major decision to Ray Walder of Richmond, 13-4. (Second Place)

152 – Jesse Meek – won by major decision over Lucas McQuade of Tipton, 20-9; lost by decision to Tyler Forsee of Centralia, 10-7; pinned Buchanan of Boonville, 2:14; lost by decision to Chris Early of Chillicothe, 9-5. (Fourth Place)

160 – Zach Plumb – pinned Brian Clayton of Centralia, 2:18; won by decision over Jacob Grisel of Hamilton, 10-6; lost by decision to Chance Baragary of Boonville, 6-4. (Second Place.

171 – Justin Anderson – was pinned by Billy Daleske of Warsaw, 3:25; was pinned by Hemeree of Richmond, 3:30.
