The Newtown-Harris Board of Education met Wednesday night, discussing elementary recess and offering administrative contracts.
According to information provided by Superintendent Andy Anderson, the board agreed to implement recess times for the elementary grades. Preschool and kindergarten students will have recess two times per day, with first and second grades having recess for 25 minutes after lunch. The third and fourth graders, as well as fifth and sixth graders, will have a 15-minute recess each day.
Several announcements were made, including that school will not be in session on Feb. 17 in observance of President?s Day and Homecoming will be held Friday, Feb. 21 against North Daviess. Classes will dismiss at 12:30 p.m. for a STARR teacher in-service on March 5 and the elementary basketball tournament will be held March 17,18 and 20. School board training dates were announced and will include April 30 and May 7, 14 and 21 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Milan High School.
Board members heard teacher reports and recognized Brock Coin for being selected as the Elementary Student of the Month.
In other business, the board approved a yearbook contract with Walsworth Publishing Company for the 2003-2004 school year.
Contracts were offered to Principal Mitch Barnes for the 2003-2004 school year and to Anderson for the 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 school years.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for March 12.
