The Laredo R-7, Tri-County R-7 and Princeton R-5 boards of education met Monday night, approving field trips, principal contracts and a resignation.

Laredo R-7

Laredo Principal Shawn Schultz said the board voted to add five minutes to the recess for grades five through eight and approved the seventh and eighth grade field trip to Royals Stadium on May 5. A field trip for fifth and sixth grades was also discussed.

In other business, the board approved the implementation of the Postponing Sexual Involvement curriculum as presented by Molly Long of the Grundy County Health Department.

Board members voted to allow Michelle Lynch to hold an open gym two nights per week until March 21.

Schultz read several documents from state representatives about the state budget situation and discussed the upcoming budget.

An executive session was held to discuss personnel, with no announcement made.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for March 10.

Tri-County R-7

The Tri-County R-7 Board approved principal contracts during its meeting.

According to information provided by Superintendent Ron Garber, the board approved updated policies concerning copyright materials, reconsideration of materials and disclosure of library records, school ceremonies and observances and public questions or comments concerning instructional, media and library materials.

Board members appointed Ann Eckert as secretary to the board, with Sandra Provorse serving as acting secretary. Teri Goldman was selected to represent the district concerning any special services issues.

Contracts were offered to Troy Clawson, high school principal, and Toni Cox, elementary principal, for the 2003-2004 school year, with salaries to remain the same. The board also voted to allow the principals to use Title II D money for tuition toward their specialists? degree, up to a maximum of $700 each.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m., Thursday, March 13.

Princeton R-5

A senior class trip was approved and a retirement was accepted during the Princeton R-5 board meeting.

Superintendent Alan Hamilton reported that the senior class was given approval to take a trip to Hannibal in April and board members approved the 2003-2004 school calendar, the evaluations for the Reading Recovery and Career Ladder programs, as well as the Technology Plan. Also approved was the 2003-2004 budget for the A-Plus Program.

A retirement request was approved for Harlene Dougan, who was taught in the district for the past 28 years. She will return to the school next year in a part-time capacity, teaching dual credit courses.

Contracts were offered to Dulcie Price, elementary principal, and George Scurlock, secondary principal, for the 2003-2004 school year. Salaries will be negotiated at a later date.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 10.
