The Trenton High School wrestling team took fifth place over the weekend at the Quad State Wrestling Tournament at Maryville.

The Trenton High School wrestling team took fifth place over the weekend at the Quad State Wrestling Tournament at Maryville.
The Bulldogs finished with 100.5 points. Maryville finished in first place with 151.50 points. Bedford, IA was second with 146 points and Smithville was third with 145 points.
?We had seven kids placing and scoring over 100 points,? Head Coach Bill Hill said. ?This was our best tournament performance this season.?
Senior Zach Plumb brought home Trenton?s lone first-place finish at 160 pounds while improving his season record to 20-5.
Freshman Justin Hendricks took second place at 119 pounds, winning his first two matches by fall before losing by technical fall to Cody Gillenwater of Maryville in the finals.
?Justin looked good all day, even in the finals? loss,? Hill said. ? He always goes hard, start to finish.?
The Bulldogs had three kids take third place, Matthew Chambers, Tyler Tolle and Jesse Meek. Chambers finished the tournament with a 3-1 record. He was able to pin three opponents but lost a close 5-2 decision in the second round.
?Matthew lost a close match in the semifinals,? Hill said. ?He came back strong with two pins to finish third.?
Meek had his push for the championship match derailed in the semifinals by Marcus Myles of Lincoln. Meek lost a 10-2 decision, however, he did come back to win his next two matches and earn third.
?Jesse is cranking it up for the post-season,? Hill said. ?He lost a close match in the semifinals, but wrestled great all day to finish third in a tough weight bracket.?
Tolle overcame a first-round loss to Greg Schuelke of Bedford, IA, to take third. Tolle won his next three matches, including a decision over Schuelke in the third-place final.
?This was his best day yet,? Hill said. ?After losing in the first round, Tyler came back to win three in a row and finished third. Tyler showed the he is capable of beating some really good wrestlers.?
Junior Andy Cox and Josh Thomas rounded out the Trenton placewinners as both finished fourth.
Cox finished the day with a 2-2 record. He lost his opening match, then pinned his next two opponents. He then lost to Anthony Teeters of Bedford in the third-place match.
?I was pleased with Andy?s performance,? Hill said. ?He is really improving lately. Things are starting to click of Andy on the mat.?
Thomas was 0-2 on the day, but took fourth out of four wrestlers in the 103-pound class.
The Bulldogs travel to Cameron tonight for their final dual before the district tournament Saturday.
