Eddie Sims, a 94-year-old resident of Mercer, passed away on Friday, Jan. 31, 2003 at the Corydon Nursing and Rehab Center in Corydon, IA.

Eddie Sims, a 94-year-old resident of Mercer, passed away on Friday, Jan. 31, 2003 at the Corydon Nursing and Rehab Center in Corydon, IA.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. today (Monday, Feb. 3, 2003) at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Lineville, IA. Rev. Robert Markum officiated. Burial was in the Early Cemetery at Mercer.
Mr. Sims was born in southeast Mercer County on Aug. 16, 1908, the son of Fred and Laura Pixler Sims. He was united in marriage to Arlene Barnett on Nov. 28, 1965. She surives of the home. He attended country schools in Mercer County. He was a self -mployed truck driver for most of his life. He hauled water for Mercer County households for 35 years. He was a member of the Lineville Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Sims is survived by two daughters, Arfleata Bain and her husband, Virgil, of Centerville, IA and Carolyn Watson and her husband, Bud, of Wellsville, KS; three grandchildren, Mike Bain of Centerville, IA, Debbie Shatzer and her husband, Randy, of Lee’s Summit and Greg Watson and his wife, Terri, of Wellsville; four great-granddaughters, Ashli and Krystina Watson of Wellsville and Sydney and Katie Shatzer of Lee’s Summit; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Sims was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Evelyn Souther; and one brother, Joe Sims.
The family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Early or Coon cemeteries. These may be left at the funeral home.
