The Trenton Park Board continued work on the design for a proposed aquatic center during a special meeting held Thursday night at city hall.
Board members met with Kevin McElyea of Larkin Aquatics to review three new design proposals for the aquatic center. Larkin Aquatics has been selected as the designer for the center, with no payment required if a one-half cent sales tax issue does not pass in the April 8 election. If it does pass, the board has stated it will use Larkin as the designer for the facility. McElyea presented plans and recorded suggestions and directions alterations, with another design to be presented at next Wednesday?s meeting. He also presented demographic information, which shows that realistically, an aquatic center in Trenton could draw around 25,000 persons per season. Park Superintendent Jason Shuler said Chillicothe?s aquatic center drew 33,160 last season, with an estimate that as many as one-half of those were from the Trenton area. Board members discussed the economic impact that the center would have on local businesses, noting that many people coming to the center would eat and shop in Trenton while they are here.
Board members will meet in regular session at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at city hall to continue work on the project. Local citizens who would like to provide input on the center are encouraged to attend the meeting or to contact a board member.
