The Trenton High School wrestling team had three wrestlers earn first place honors on Saturday at the Brookfield Tournament.

The Bulldogs also had a wrestler take second place while a fifth wrestler finished fourth.

Seniors Matthew Chambers and Zach Plumb took first place as did sophomore Jesse Meek.

Chambers won his opening two matches by fall at 125 pounds and then defeated Caleb Buckallew of Brookfield in the championship match, 3-0.

?Matt looked great with two pins and then a 3-0 decision win over Buckallew, who had beaten him last week,? Head Coach Bill Hill said.

Plumb opened the tournament at 160 pounds with a pair of first-period pins. He defeated Bob Daller of Marceline in the finals, 6-3.

?Zach is beginning to peak at just the right time,? Hill said. ?He had two first-period pins and then wrestled a great match in the finals, winning 6-3.?

Meek won by fall in the opening period of his 152-pound match, then won his next two matches by major decisions. Meek beat Chris Earley of Chillicothe in the finals, 15-2.

?Jesse was impressive all day,? Hill said. ?Getting a fall and then two major decisions. Jesse is wrestling smarter each time he goes out.?

Freshman Justin Hendricks ran his record to 15-10 by going 2-1 and taking second place. Hendricks won his first two matches by fall at 119 pounds and then lost by technical fall to Jake Cordray of Marceline in the finals, 19-3.

?Hendricks is really coming on as we head toward the post-season,? Hill said. ?I can count on him to give 110 percent from the first buzzer to the last.?

Seth Cox went 2-2 over the weekend at 275 pounds. Cox won his first match by fall, then lost by fall. He then won a 9-3 decision before losing by fall in the third-place match to Ryan Gardner of Chillicothe.

Chillicothe took first place overall. Marceline was second, Brookfield was third and Trenton and Gallatin tied for fourth place. Team scores were not available.

Justin Anderson was the only other Bulldog to win a match. He defeated Clayton Baker of Gallatin in the first round of the 171-pound class by a 8-6 decision.

The Bulldogs will next host Chillicothe on Tuesday at the THS gym, with matches set to begin at 6 p.m.
