Dr. Terry L. Terril, a 66-year-old resident of Princeton, passed away Friday, Jan. 24, 2003 in rural Princeton.

Dr. Terry L. Terril, a 66-year-old resident of Princeton, passed away Friday, Jan. 24, 2003 in rural Princeton.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003 at Maple Hill Funeral Home in Kansas City, KS. Burial will be in the Floral Hills Cemetery in Kansas City, MO.

Friends may call between 6 and 8 p.m. today (Monday, Jan. 27, 2003) at the funeral home.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, 2003 at the North Mercer High School.

Mr. Terril was born in Oskaloosa, IA and grew up in the Rosedale area, graduating from Rosedale High School in 1954. He began his extensive secondary education by receiving his associate degree from Kansas City, KS Community College; his bachelor’s degree from Pittsburg State University; his master’s degree from Central Missouri State University; and his doctorate degree from the University of Kansas. While completing his education he also served in the Air Force. His career in education began in 1958 when he became a teacher in the Consolidated School District #1 in Kansas City. Over the next several years he served several area school districts. In Grandview he served as the principal of both the junior and senior high school, eventually becoming the Director of Curriculum and Consolidated School District #4. In the Shawnee Mission district he served as the principal of Meadowbrook Junior High School and Shawnee Mission East High School. He then went to Arizona to become the Director of the Phoenix Union High School System. After Phoenix, he became the principal of the Chino Unified School District in Chino, CA.

In 1975, Mr. Terril became the Superintendant of Schools for Unified School District #440 in Halstead, KS. He followed that with superintendent positions in Arkansas City, KS; Salina, KS; Beaufort, SC; and Shreveport, LA. He then returned to this area to serve as a guidance consultant in the Higbee and Bunceton school districts. In 1996, he became the superintendent for Keytesville R-3 in Keytesville. He was currently the superintendent of schools for the North Mercer R-3 School District in Mercer.

Mr. Terril is survived by his wife, Judy Terril, of the home; two sons, Mark Terril and his wife, Sheryl, of Arlington Heights, IL and Mike Terril and his wife, Stacy, and their son, Jackson Dalton, of Prairie Village, KS; two daughters, Whitney Kinsinger and her husband, Kirk, and Amy Peoples and her husband, Andy, of Shawnee, KS; three stepsons, Bill Allen of Lawrence, KS and Ben and Nick Allen, both of Lenexa, KS; and one brother and his wife, Bruce and Mary Terril of Prairie Village, KS.

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Terry L. Terril Memorial Fund, benefiting the North Mercer R-3 School District, P.O. Box 648, Mercer, MO 64661.
