Park Board Will Form Committee On Tax Issue
The Trenton Park Board is seeking volunteers to assist with efforts in passing a one-half cent sales tax issue that will appear on the April 8 ballot.
During a special meeting Monday night, the board decided to form a committee to work with board members to promote the need for the tax, which would be used to fund operation of the city?s park system. Persons interested in helping are asked to contact Park Superintendent Jason Shuler at 359-2004. There is an answering machine, so a message can be left should Shuler not be available.
Board members are wanting to make presentations to various groups and organizations and already have some planned in the next few weeks. Those wanting to have a presentation done can also contact Shuler or Chuck Lankheit.
Four members of the park board were appointed to a committee to develop a brochure that will be distributed, providing information about the proposal. Those on the committee include Kimbra Mullenix, Marti Williams, Gordon Joiner and Lankheit.
The board reviewed engineering qualifications from three firms concerning the proposed aquatic center and agreed to visit with two of those firms – Larkin Aquatics of Kansas City, which built the original pool for the city, and Water?s Edge Aquatic Design of Lenexa, KS. A representative from Irvinbilt, which has done both new construction and renovation, will also be asked to visit with the board. A date as to when the meeting with those three firms will take place will be announced later, however, it is hoped the meeting can occur quickly.
