Effie May Smith, a 79-year-old resident of Kirksville, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003 at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.

Effie May Smith, a 79-year-old resident of Kirksville, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003 at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.

The body was cremated under the direction of the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral service of Princeton. Memorial graveside services will be held at a later date at the Early Cemetery in Mercer.

Mrs. Smith was born in Prairie City, IA on April 19, 1923, the daughter of George William and Christina Marie Newtron Louswma. She was first married to Earl Ulrey, who preceded her in death. She was later married to Orley Cleo Smith of Mercer. He preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 1991. She resided in several communities while raising 15 children, but lived most of her life in Sullivan County. She moved to Kirksville in October of 2001.

Mrs. Smith is survived by three sons, Doyle Smith of Princeton, Floyd Smith of Waco, NC and David Smith of Corydon, IA; seven daughters, Wilma Frisbie of Peculiar, Mary Lou Payton of Valrico, FL, Joann Sanderson of Montrose, CA, Joyce Miller of Sacramento, CA, Marilyn R. Miller of Kirksville, Carol Smith of Leon, IA and Pamela Bledsoe of Waco, NC; one sister, Madeline Harding of Le Claire, IA; one brother, Bill Louswma of Knoxville, IA; 50 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren; 28 great-great-great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Melvin, Gerald and Orlin Smith; two daughters, Kay and Jean Smith; and by several brothers and sisters.
