The Grundy County Commission continued its work on the 2003 budget, holding a public hearing this morning and discussing figures with county department heads.
No one attended the public hearing today, but commissioners heard reports from Road and Bridge Supervisor Bill Hunter and Ambulance Director Carolyn Fink. Commissioners said they will continue gathering information from department heads concerning the budget, which will be approved at the end of the month.
It was announced that the court has ruled in favor of the county in regard to a lawsuit filed by Todd Grooms, a former employee in the Grundy County Ambulance Department. Grooms had sued the county for breach of contract after the termination of his employment. While the county did not have to pay any money to Grooms, a total of $26,134.76 in county funds was spent in 2002 defending the lawsuit, with the total cost to the county topping $30,000.
