The new year will bring changes to the Grundy County Sheriff?s Department, with one deputy joining a federal task force and another retiring, effective Jan. 1. In addition, a new deputy has joined the force.

Grundy County Sheriff Greg Coon said Deputy Eric McAllister, who has been with the department since 1997, has joined the Northwest Missouri Interagency Team Response Operation, a federal task force focused on the investigation of crimes involving methamphetamine and firearms. The task force encompasses an 18-county area and is operated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. McAllister?s salary in the task force will be funded through a grant received by the Grundy County Sheriff?s Department through the Missouri Sheriff?s Association. McAllister will remain a Grundy County Deputy assigned to the task force and will work in this area while based in Cameron.

McAllister will be replaced by 21-year-old Joe Hamilton, a Harrison County native and December graduate of the law enforcement academy at Missouri Western State College in St. Joseph. Hamilton, a graduate of Bethany High School, will begin his duties Jan. 1 and will be relocating to Grundy County.

Sheriff Coon also said that Deputy Max Dickerson will retire from his position, with today being his last day on the job. Dickerson joined the force as a full-time deputy in 1994 and two years later became a part-time deputy, serving as bailiff. A replacement for Dickerson has not been identified at this point.
