The Jamesport City Council met Wednesday night at the Jamesport City Hall, accepting a trash service contract and discussing several other topics.

According to information provided by City Clerk Carol Cass, the council voted to accept a trash service contract with Onyx Waste Services Midwest Inc. (Superior Trash Service) for a three-year period, beginning Jan. 1. Residential pickup will increase to $8.50 per month the first year and will be adjusted each year by a rate of 3 percent. Commercial rates will increase to $14 for hand stops with a 3 percent adjustment each year. The city will act as the collection agency for all accounts and all other rates will be mutually agreed upon between the trash service contract and the commercial accountis to be collected by the city.

The council agreed to the payment of the utility superintendent?s overtime back pay for three years, which is $48,705.38 and is to be paid in a lump sum or paid in payments not later than Dec. 31, 2004.

The council was advised that the completion of the pre-application for grant money through the Green Hills Community Development Agency was anticipated the week of Dec. 16. It was noted that the cost of cleaning city hall facilities has increased to $75 per week with extra time of $9 an hour. Plans for the city restroom facilities were presented by Les Turner for review.

The board set the filing date for the April election at Dec. 24 to Jan. 21. The terms of Mayor J.L. Eckelberry and councilmen Ron Haggard and Leona Waterbury will be filled.

Other topics discussed included additional street signs, use of city vehicles, parking on Route F during festivals, judges for the Christmas lighting contest and the need for a city audit.

The next meeting of the council is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 8.
