The Pleasant View R-6 and Tri-County R-7 boards of education held meetings recently, setting filing dates, discussing budget issues and conducting a superintendent?s evaluation.

Pleasant View R-6

Superintendent Dr. Lynn Kowalski said the board set the filing dates for the April board election as Jan. 2-21, from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The three-year terms to the be filled are currently held by Doug Dolan and Dave McGinness, while the two-year term currently held by Joe Brinser is also to be filled.

In other business, the board adopted MSBA policy updates and approved revision of the professional development handbook and professional development plan for 2002-2003. Board members adopted the student code of conduct and took no action on student applications. Also discussed were ways to make the intersection at Highway 65 safer and heard a report from Dr. Kowalski on the state budget and its options for the coming year. Prior to the meeting board members visited Peggy Johnson?s room and viewed science and social studies work by fifth through eighth graders.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Jan. 14.

Tri-County R-7

According to information provided by Superintendent Ron Garber, the board met Monday and set the filing dates as Dec. 24 from 8 to 10 a.m., and then from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Friday except for the Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday, and ending at 5 p.m., Jan. 21. The three-year terms currently held by Roger Savage and Tad Lisle will be filled, as will the one-year unexpired term of Tyann Wells.

In other business, the board agreed to have the firm of Shafer, Kline and Warren survey the school property at a price not to exceed $2,500. Board members also authorized Garber to reinvest certificate of deposits. Policy updates and the umbrella insurance policy were tabled until the next meeting, with the purchase of a bus tabled until the transportation committee meets and makes a recommendation.

A closed session was held to conduct the superintendent?s evaluation.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Jan. 14.
